I don't understand the good reviews. This place is pretty lackluster at best. I had heard of this place before, so for lunch my wife and I stopped in. It really does kind of look like a shed on the inside, for whatever that may be worth. My wife ordered a cod sandwich. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. We ordered no alcoholic drinks. That is most likely our biggest mistake. Had we ordered copious drinks, maybe we would not have noticed that the cod sandwich was one of those from-frozen square fish patties on a hot dog bun. My Reuben was okay, but also seemed to be a slapped-together conglomeration of freezer fare. It didn't contain a lot of meat, and lacked the spiced pickled flavor of good corned beef. The sauce was served on the side and tasted like something straight from a cheap salad dressing bottle. We both received a small pile of potato chips on the side that were mostly small pieces like what you might find on the bottom of a chip bag. The cottage fries were also the kind you would get frozen from the grocery store, and could have used another minute in the fryer. I have read reviews calling this a "dive." Ok. If you look up "dive" in a dictionary, it will read something like, "a shabby and disreputable establishment (as a bar or nightclub)." Perhaps by that definition, The Shed is a dive. If you are into that sort of thing, help yourself. I'll go to Culver's first before The Shed.

The shed wasn't as much of a dive as some of the other reviewers have suggested. It's a comfortable little small town bar with a nice little dining area. The locally brewed beers were the highlight of our visit while our burgers were quite good but nothing to write home about. The brews were five bucks a pint and the burgers, served with chips (no fries) were about $6.50. The Shed charges 25 cents each for lettuce, tomato and onion which drives the price of your burger up a bit and seems excessive--besides just being annoying. Our server was pleasant and attentive.

I was disappointed. Saw a large advertisement on the way in and it is just bar food and nothing all that good at that. Service was pleasant but one meal was skimpy for the price. The onion rings, cheese curds were done well and good. The salad bar was simple, clean and fresh but nothing more than average. Dining area is small. I have heard that Freddies is much better food and the place to go when in town. Next time I will go there instead.

Went here last night for dinner and a beer. They have a really good local craft beer selection but slightly overpriced for the style/area of this restaurant. Pints were $5.00 which is steep for a dive bar. I also thought it was strange that their pints were more expensive than bottles (even though you get 4 more ounces of beer with a pint). Its a dive bar in rural Wisconsin and draft beers shouldn't be this much. The food was OK - I had a 1/4 lb burger. Like others have mentioned, they charge a quarter per topping, so if you want lettuce/tomato/onion, it costs .75 cents more. I've never seen another place that charges for toppings in this fashion. My wife had some sort of veggie sandwich which she said was tasty. I cant comment on anything else really. I think this bar supports mostly locals because a lot of people knew the bartenders and called them by name. All in all, I will probably come back here sometime. Not too bad for Wisconsin.

Let's just get one thing out of the way: The Shed is a dive. There. I said it. With that said, it's a dive that has two things dive bars usually don't: good beer (most importantly) and good food (OBVIOUSLY secondary to good beer). We stopped in here while staying at the House on the Rock resort on New Year's Day. Apparently people consider that a national holiday and NO ONE, I repeat, no one, was open. The entire town was closed...Except The Shed (thank you for that!). Luckily, The Shed had all we needed to offer anyway. We sat in the bar area (there's a diner section too...but there's no action over there) and immediately ordered some good 'ol Wisconsin craft beer and fried cheese curds. (Have I mentioned how much I love Wisconsin? These are two of the major reasons why). We also got a couple of sandwiches too. I ended up getting the Jake burger (a bacon burger with jalapeño cream cheese) and it was damn good if I may say so. The burger was overcooked, which I'd say is unfortunately typical wherever you go, but the toasted bun and the toppings were so good I didn't care. The sandwiches come with chips (like Lays Original, not fries) but you can upgrade if you like. Overall, this is a nice little towny joint with a decent enough beer list to make snobs like us happy. Give them a try if you ever happen to be in town.

Nice place, very nice people with acceptable service and food. The service isn't very fast but they are very polite servers. The Friday fish fry is ok if you get the fried fish (a little soggy though). The baked fish is dry and seasoned poorly. The fries are a little cold in the middle. We had to wait several minutes after our food came to eat because they didn't give us our silverware. The food flew out of the kitchen once we got our order in (which took about ten minutes before anyone noticed us). Once we were done eating it took about 10 minutes before the bill came, which drove me nuts! It is a family friendly restaurant on the dining side. They also have a bar (which I did not try). They are a ok restaurant with kind people and mediocre food.

Great food, cozy atmosphere. Good selection of beer and large menu with something for everyone.

Ah, The Shed...I have to admit to an emotional response when walking in the door, as I remember slipping in to pick up the only available take-away pizza in miles and miles, years and years ago, when worlds were smaller. They are a friendly and informal bunch. The TL; DR review is: judge this particular book by its cover. If you are cool with the outside, you'll definitely be cool with the homestyle bar food available here. If not, things are less predictable. An improvement on what was served years ago: they have an actual menu with a variety of options on offer...that's a fairly big deal. This is a microscopic town joint (full stop). There are those who would say that if you're Yelping, you're probably not going to be a superfan of The Shed - style culinary experience. Nothing exceptional...just (good enough, to be sure) bar food. Will continue to go back, just not gonna let expectations exceed possibilities. A dive is a dive.

This place rocks! Also, Heather helped us out of a real bind on the Wisconsin River! Enjoy the shed!

Good local bar food. Non descript place, my Bf and I sat at the bar. We both ordered the chicken fajitas and salad bar. It was okay. Fajitas came out sizzling, was missing a little spice, but what do you expect at a local watering hole.. We also had the Salad bar which was basic, and the potato soup was pretty good. Bartender was very friendly and chatty the bar had a good selection of local beers on tap and bottles.
(3)Gary S.
Food was not very good. The chicken wrap was no better than Kwik-Trip's. Dining area needs more lighting. When we first sat down, we had to listen to someone (Owner/Manager) upstairs yelling at someone else on the phone?

We found The Shed on yelp and the reviews were pretty good. It was around 11:45 a.m. when we sat down in the bar area. There was not a lot of customers and it took a few minutes to even be acknowledged. We almost walked out. The bartender could had said something to us. The witness came over, told us the specials, took our drink order and was back fairly quickly. We ordered burgers and fries. They arrived fast. The food was hot and very tasty. We would come back again for the food.

There's plenty of places to go in Spring Green. The Shed seems to be THE place to go. There's always something going on: fish fry, locals night, music, kareoke...... Solid menu, standard bar fare but with some twists. The Fish Tacos on Friday are my favorite. Good burgers, a salad bar with home made soups. The desserts are home made as well. Daily lunch/dinner specials can be amazing. You won't find too many places with such an eclectic crowd. The place was packed to see.......the TV broadcast of 'The Sound of Music'. World Cup soccer? Good luck, the place is packed for it. Same for Football season and Packers games. Family run and family friendly. When we come into town it's just assumed that we are going to The Shed for dinner and we usually are.

We were staying in Spring Green and checked out Yelp to find a place to eat for dinner after visiting Taliesen. We decided on The Shed. It's not much to look at on the inside, but the food was good. I started with the cheese curds, which were great. Then, for the main course I went with the Jake - a bacon cheeseburger with a jalapeño cream cheese sauce. It was quite delicious. For dessert, I had the grasshopper pie. It was nice. All pies are made in-house and you can tell. Overall, this is a pretty good hole-in-the-wall for a quick meal.

Zero stars. Is that possible? Fine I had to give a star but they don't deserve any. By far the worst dinner experience of my life. The server couldn't remember a drink order that consisted of "2 glasses of Merlot and a Brandy Old Fashioned" as she hushed others in our group to hold onto their order until she got back as she couldn't remember it all. Broccoli on the Salmon Dinner & Shrimp Skewers were ice cold. The salmon was so incredibly dry. "Loaded baked potato" was a joke. When we mentioned to our server the broccoli was cold her response: "oh". Spaghetti was gross. Cheese curds and coconut shrimp were "good" but not much competition with the rest of our dinner. Coconut cream pie was good. Incredibly disappointed. You would think The Shed would be gracious when a table of 5 sits down on Monday night for dinner only because all other restaurants in Spring Green are closed Monday nights. If you go here I would stick with appetizers and canned/bottled beer that they can't mess up c

Great little small town restaurant and bar! Friendly and clean! Food is amazing, love the bacon burger, O so yummy!
(5)Sean W.
Perfectly pleasant small town pub with good food, low prices, and nice people. I enjoyed the Ms. Ruthie chicken sandwich. My wife had the chicken parmesan. Good size portions served with lays potato chips. Our waitress was friendly and the food came out fast. The meal finished with a nice array of pie and cake type dessert options.

Nice place, great food, awesome drive. Will come by again.

I give this place 5 stars for service. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food, however, was not quite blowing me away. However, we did have a gluten free crust pizza, so it was perhaps not the best choice to review them on. I would definitely try them again if I was in the area and get some of the more traditional fare for the place.

I pretty much spend all my nights at The Shed. It is by far the best bar in Spring Green. It might not be a high class joint but you are gonna get a great beer (try any Furthermore on tap, they're my favorites) and a tasty snack (Deep. Fried. Cheese. Curds). They have karaoke every other week and its a blast during the summer. Staff from the nearby American Players Theatre mix with locals for some pretty good singing! The owners, Mark and Wynn, are charming and hospitable. I love that they're working their bar just as much as anybody and cheerful to boot! And Leanna is the pro bartender to get your beer from. She is a delight. Go drink your beer on the back patio, feel the breeze on your neck and the booze in your belly!

The Shed is a small family restaurant attached to a bar, the kind of place I grew up going to with my parents. The atmosphere was great. The burger I had was giant, perfectly done and super tasty. The prices were very reasonable if not cheap. My daughter had the French Dip which she raved about.
(5)Hayley H.
We didn't try the food here, and its a bit dingy on the inside. The bar is fully stocked and has just about everything from Summer Shandy to Spotted Cow. The people are nice and the beer garden is a fantastic place. Very open, garden-y, and everyone has some conversation to share. Its the best place in town to mingle with the locals. Especially young people, who were hard to find.
(4)Joan C.
Can't say enough good about this place. Good drinks, good food at a fair price! It's your regular hometown bar with great customer service.
(4)Monica H.
Food here hit the spot. Portabello Melt, the Veggie Pizza, the Friday Fish Fry, black bean veggie burger were all great. Service is extremely helpful and attentive. Late night food menu works well too.

In my three, short days in the area, I managed to grab grub at The Shed twice, and came pretty close to tripling, if not for my host and hostess reeling me back for a home-cooked. Very relaxed, small-town, gimme-a-big-ol'-bearhug kind of place. I imagine my third visit there they'd be asking me about my bum knee, and how my daughter's doing in grad school, then buying me a shot. Good burgers, good sides, wonderful local cheeses and beers. The Spotted Cow brew was so good I decided to drink until they pulled me out by the short and curlies. Out back, they have a patio and a stage. I was THIS close to seeing some live al fresco music, so now I have a great excuse to bunk down at my friends' for another long weekend.

We recently had our Rehearsal Dinner on the back patio of The Shed and have a fabulous time! The atmosphere and ambience of the patio was extremely relaxing and created a fantastic environment for us to mingle and spend time with our guests. The owners Mark and Wynn did an amazing job of catering the event and were out there the entire time. They set up all the plates of food, along with tea light candles and flower jars to make the event so elegant! We had such a memorable time with our family and friends here! The food was so delicious, and we are so happy to have held our event here. Our family and friends were so complimentary of the relaxing atmosphere and great service at The Shed!

Great Wisconsin bar and grill. Don't let the gloomy interior throw you. Service is fantastic. Good selection of regional craft beer (tap & larger selection in bottles). Daily meal specials but try the Slip Burger for sure or the Bax Wrap if you are trying to keep your arteries unclogged.

We had an incredible Friday Fish Fry with tasty (strong!) beverages and can't wait to go back! If you happen to be in Spring Green - or near Spring Green - on a Friday night, The Shed's Fish Fry is a must-do.

This is a very cool place to eat if you are visiting the area....I kinda planned on eating here because of the good reviews and the menu online looked very tempting.....When we walked in, we were seated promptly and I noticed they had a Prime Rib special that night,,and even though we walked in a half hour before 5pm(when the Special was to start) they still were able to let me get it, which I thought was very kind of them...The kid loved her cheeseburger and the missus enjoyed her chicken wrap....the fried cheese curds were really tasty and my prime Rib was perfectly done...the salad bar was small but full of fresh veggies, dressings and great things to mix in your salad, like bacon and chopped ham....I had some cheesy potato soup that was very flavorful and I wish I had some now!......they have great beer on tap and the ones brewed by Furthermore really hit this beer geeks spot....I want to take a minute to really compliment the service here....It was very friendly and that made the whole experience even better....Tanya and the rest of the staff here are awesome!.....if you are looking to unwind in a nice relaxing place while you are around Spring Green...stop in

I've eaten at The shed many times. It's a nice place to raise a glass, and the food, while certainly not gourmet quality is dependably good bar food, with afar wider variety of types than you might expect. It's the most reliable place in town to eat. The outside dining is delightful on a warm night. One caution; Spring Green often has ferocious mosquitos.

If you are looking for a beer in Spring Green, "The Shed" is your best bet. Fantastic bar staff, friendly clientele, and great "Furthermore" beer on tap. Make sure you check out the "Mark's Style: French Dip" -- best French Dip sandwich I've ever had. (Oh, and the pizza's pretty great, too.)
